Derrick is a Member at Spilman Thomas & Battle and serves as Managing Member of the firm’s Greater Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, office. He has practiced in the area of public utility and energy law for more than 30 years, primarily representing large commercial, manufacturing, industrial, and institutional consumers of electricity and natural gas before state and federal utility and energy commissions and appellate courts.

For more than three decades, Derrick has supported the West Virginia Energy Users Group (WVEUG), which represents some of the largest consumers of power in the state, and he currently serves as the organization’s executive director. He regularly represents the group in rate cases before the Public Service Commission of West Virginia and provides legislative testimony on energy issues.

A graduate of the University of Maryland, where he earned summa cum laude honors and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and Duke University School of Law, where he served as Research Editor of the Duke Environmental Law & Policy Forum, Derrick has been selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America for energy law multiple times. He is also an adjunct professor at Penn State Dickinson Law, where he has taught Energy Law and Policy and Administrative Law.
