Derek Scarbro

Derek joined the Marshall Advanced Manufacturing Center in 2017 and became director in 2022. For 36 years, the Marshall Advanced Manufacturing Center has focused on applied workforce and economic development in manufacturing, serving more than 350 companies and training more than 1,100 people annually.

Before joining the center, Derek served in several state government agencies, including the Governor’s Office, Treasurer’s Office, and Development Office, and also led statewide nonprofit organizations. While serving in the Governor’s Office, he was director of intergovernmental affairs and the gubernatorial appointee to the Interagency Workforce Development Task Force.

Derek lives in Huntington with his wife, Sara Payne, and their daughter, Willa. He serves on the boards of the Regional Contracting Assistance Center, Marshall’s Council for Research and Commercialization, Tech Connect, and United Way.
